Known for their energetic live shows, the trio has played concerts all over Europe. The musician<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00b4<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">s background from different genres, combined with their playfulness and need to explore, make the traditional tunes travel to places they\u00b4ve never been before.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u201cThis year\u2019s most exciting folk music record!\u201d, was how a collective press described the debut album <\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"none\">Frie T\u00f8yler<\/span><\/i><span data-contrast=\"none\"> in 2014. Adresseavisen wrote: \u201cThis is music that hits you, regardless if you\u00b4re a fan of traditional music, rock or blues\u201d. Their debut album was based on a desire to make traditional music more accessible to a bigger audience, with hard-hitting, newly composed tunes in a playful approach.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">Without turning away from their expression or the goal, \u201cFete sl\u00e5tta\u201d pays homage to Norwegian traditional music. Erlend has learned the tunes from his teachers, colleagues and archive recordings. The traditional tunes are integrated into the trio<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00b4<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">s expression, channeling and exploring traditional form, tonality and rhythmical elements. Collectively this creates their unique sound, where the trio continues their exploration of the meeting between the structured melodies and the musical free space. Producer Olav Torget has been a part of arranging and forming the music and also contributes with the African instrument n\u00b4goni on three of the tracks.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u201cOne of the things I like best with traditional music is that it\u00b4s so heavily connected with social happenings and dance. In folk music culture it\u00b4s a tradition to meet up to play, sing and dance, without planning any of the music in advance. It\u00b4s a way to hang out. Some of my strongest musical memories are the meeting between professionals and amateurs, people from different genres and with instrumentation that rarely \u2013 or is never heard \u2013 on a concert stage.\u201d &#8211; Erlend Viken<\/span><\/i><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">Even though, or maybe because of, Erlend\u00b4s need to explore, he is still a typical folk music nerd. He has studied the archives, traditional techniques, different traditional areas and tonalities, and not least had coffee and cookies while learning Hardanger fiddle tunes from masters such as H\u00e5kon H\u00f8gemo (Western Norway), and Tore Bolstad (Valdres). The fiddle tunes he has learned from his father.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">BIO<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">Erlend Viken Trio<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"none\"> has previously released the albums <\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"none\">Frie T\u00f8yler<\/span><\/i><span data-contrast=\"none\"> (2014) and <\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"none\">Nykomlingen<\/span><\/i><span data-contrast=\"none\"> (2017). The debut album <\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"none\">Frie T\u00f8yler<\/span><\/i><span data-contrast=\"none\"> received the Folkelarm Award in 2014. The band members consist of sought-after musicians that has made an impression in different musical genres.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">Erlend Viken<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"none\"> has played with musicians such as <\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">Odd Nordstoga, Bigbang, Susanne Sundf\u00f8r, Ingebj\u00f8rg Bratland, Erlend Ropstad, Mathias Eick Quintet, OnklP &amp; De fjerne slektningene, and Majorstuen. With Earlybird Stringband he has been nominated for two Norwegian Grammy Awards. He has won the \u201celite group\u201d for regular fiddle at the National Games for Traditional Music and Dance in Norway (2016), and composed several commissioned works, the latest being \u201cDjupet\u201c for Ultima Oslo Contemporary Music Festival in 2020.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">Marius Graff<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"none\"> is a sought-after guitarist and multi-instrumentalist.
