At the end of 2019 these outstanding artists present a birthday present to the composer that will last for a long time: an album with three premiere recordings of his works! Powerful orchestral music from one of profiles among composers today \u2013 perhaps with the piano concerto written for Leif Ove Andsnes as the icing on the cake!<\/p>\n
Andsnes describes his fascination with Hvoslef: \u201c It\u2019s fascinating how Ketil manages to create such a strong tension and story-telling \u2013 at the same time as being so transparent. His tonal language is so clear. The same applies to his attitude to \u201cless is more\u201d \u2013 I have seen that through all the revisions of the piano concerto. I also think that his music is filled with a classical clarity: an underlying tension that I think is fascinating. It is something I can\u2019t put into words. I think it\u2019s very apparent in the piano concerto\u2019s last movement, which smoulders with many different tensions that all appear, telling different stories. That\u2019s something that has fascinated me right from the start.\u201d
\nHvoslef is equally clear when describing Andsnes as an interpreter of his music: \u201cHe is so clear and plays so precisely. And my music is dependent on extreme precision. It is almost manic \u2013 and I can\u2019t do anything about that. So I could never have found anyone better than him to play it! He understands how necessary precision is. That perhaps sounds prosaic to others, but for me it means a great deal.\u201d<\/p>\n

Leif Ove Andsnes and the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra pay tribute to the prolific Norwegian composer Ketil Hvoslef. Three works for orchestra \u2013 headed by the outstanding piano concerto \u2013 comprises a grand album celebrating the composer\u2019s 80th anniversary.<\/p>\n
Throughout his career, Hvoslef has had a close relation to the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra with numerous commissions and premiere performances. When describing Andsnes\u2019 playing, Hvoslef says: \u201cHe is so clear and plays so precisely. And my music is dependent on extreme precision. It is almost manic \u2013 and I can\u2019t do anything about that. So I could never have found anyone better than him to play it! He understands how necessary precision is. That perhaps sounds prosaic to others, but for me it means a great deal.\u201d When Gullberg Jensen took over as Chief Conductor for Norddeutsche Rundfunk Sinfonieorchester in 2009, he wanted to \u2018bring something from home\u2019 \u2013 resulting in \u2018Ein Traumspiel\u2019. The orchestral work \u2018Barabbas \u2013 opera without singers\u2019, is rooted in the opera by the same name, with excerpts of the opera libretto displayed on a text machine placed over the podium.<\/p>\n
With his commanding technique and searching interpretations, the celebrated Norwegian pianist has won international acclaim, playing concertos and recitals in the world\u2019s leading concert halls and with its foremost orchestras, while building an esteemed and extensive discography. The Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra is a Norwegian national orchestra and one of the oldest in the world, dating back to 1765. It is held in high regard internationally through their extensive touring, recordings and streaming service Bergenphilive, as well as international commissions. On this album they are led by their Chief Conductor Edward Gardner, Juanjo Mena and Eivind Gullberg Jensen.<\/p>\n
