The CD consists of the two cello sonatas and seven well known lieder by Brahms. The mood of the first sonata is perhaps best described as elegiac,  in strong contrast to the outgoing and optimistic Sonata No. 2. The songs chosen span Brahms&#8217; whole life as a composer, from his first opus in the genre of collections dating from his last years.
