Music around the North Sea Pond.<\/p>\n
Folk music in the countries around the North Sea shows many similarities. On the Shetland Islands, and i Scotland and Ireland, we find tunes and melodies that have variants in Norwegian folk music. Trade, shipping, and wanderlust are probably the most important and most obvious reasons for this. Historical facts also explain the many shared cultural traits that are found in the British Isles and in Scandinavia. We need only mention Norwegian emigration to Scotland and note that the Shetlands was a part of Norway until 1469. The people of the Shetlands continued to speak Norwegian until the eighteenth century and, even today, they still use Norwegian words and expressions.<\/p>\n
The more the artist on this album delve into each other`s repertoires, the more shared music we find. What "North Sea Music" presents on this recording is therefore just a small taste of the music around the North Sea pond.<\/p>\n
