The Other Room \u201cBlikkspor\u201d, Hardanger fiddler\u00a0Erlend Apneseth\u2019s critically acclaimed debut album, presented\u00a0fiddle tunes, Apneseth\u2019s original compositions and improvisations\u00a0side by side. On\u00a0this, his follow-up album, he ventures further into\u00a0an open landscape as part of a trio with extensive experience within\u00a0improvisational music and rock. Drummer \u00d8yvind Hegg-Lunde (Electric Eye,\u00a0Building Instrument, Jos\u00e9 Gonz\u00e1lez) and guitarist Stephan Meidell\u00a0(Cakewalk, Krachmacher) joined him on\u00a0the last track of the album,\u00a0and Erlend found this collaboration so inspiring that he asked them\u00a0to form a trio with him. Meidell and Hegg-Lunde had worked together\u00a0as an improvisational\u00a0duo for several years before Erlend invited\u00a0them to participate in his project. For the past few years Erlend,\u00a0Stephan and \u00d8yvind have played regularly, and have let their music\u00a0develop\u00a0slowly but surely. By the time they went into the studio they\u00a0were full of ideas, songs, sketches and the joy of improvisation. \u201cDet andre\u00a0rommet\u201d is a lovely, inquisitive and adventurous album that takes\u00a0the music in new and unexpected directions. Erlend is a performer who stands with\u00a0both feet firmly planted in the Norwegian folk music tradition, but\u00a0who at the same time improvises and searches for new modes of\u00a0expression \u2013 all the\u00a0while with the sounds of the Hardanger fiddle\u00a0and folk music as his point of departure. He has collaborated with\u00a0musicians from a variety of different genres, has been a soloist with\u00a0the\u00a0Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, and has played with larger\u00a0improvisational ensembles, folk- and jazz-based groups, overtone and\u00a0joik singer Torgeir Vassvik, and poet Erlend O. N\u00f8dtvedt.\u00a0In 2012 he\u00a0received Grappa\u2019s New Artist Award, and the following year he\u00a0released his debut album, \u201cBlikkspor\u201d, produced by Arve\u00a0Henriksen, which received glowing reviews in the\u00a0Norwegian and\u00a0international media.
