This new CD features the highlights from two sold out concerts in ‘Store Studio’ at the Norwegian Broadcasting in Oslo, March 2017.\u00a0H\u00e5kon Kornstad with his ensemble, and the legendary\u00a0Kringkastingsorkestret\u00a0(Norwegian Radio Orchestra aka KORK), conducted\u00a0by Christian Eggen.<\/p>\n
Tenor Battle with strings!\u00a0This collaboration marks an exciting continuation of the critically acclaimed\u00a0Tenor Battle\u00a0album from 2015. Now\u00a0with a full symphonic orchestra, Kornstad delivers a seamless mix between classical songs (F.P. Tosti\u2019s \u201cMarechiare\u201d and \u201cL\u2019Ultima Canzone\u201d), opera arias (G.\u00a0Bizet\u2019s \u201cNadir\u2019s aria\u201d from\u00a0Les p\u00eacheurs de perles)\u00a0and his own creative input, both as jazz saxophonist, in his scores, or in the improvisations with his ensemble.<\/p>\n
The concert will be aired on Norwegian TV on October 29, and also on Radio P2. Stay tuned!<\/p>\n

Undoubtedly one of Norway\u2019s most exciting arrangers, Erlend Skomsvoll provides a beautiful and Steve Reich-esque version of Edvard\u00a0Grieg\u2019s \u201cEn svane\u201d, while Giuseppe Verdi\u2019s feisty canzone \u201cDi tu se fedel\u201d from the opera\u00a0Un ballo in maschera\u00a0is paired with high octane\u00a0Charles Mingus-like meanderings.<\/p>\n
In addition, the album features two instrumental tracks from the 2011 Kornstad solo album\u00a0Symphonies in My Head\u00a0\u2014\u00a0two improvised\u00a0saxophone pieces tastefully adapted for orchestra. \u201cPlystre\u201d is given a symphonic overhaul by Kjetil Bjerkestrand, while "ABA" is adapted for\u00a0cello quintet, rounding the album off in a tranquil way.<\/p>\n
