Tor Einar Bekken (Dr Bekken) is one of Norway’s foremost representatives of traditional blues\/jazz piano, and through his long career the has studied the typical styles within this musical direction. As one of very few practitioners in the country, he has basic and in-depth insights into this significant branch of modern music. "Upright Piano" is an organic recording from Bar Moskus in Trondheim, with the audience present. The recording shows Bekken’s breadth as a performer and composer, and clearly refers to both his inspirational encounter with New Orleans, and a sidelight to traditional Norwegian tones from Finnskogen.<\/p>\n

Upright Piano is an organic and untreated recording from Bar Moskus in Trondheim, with the audience present. The recording shows Bekken’s breadth as a performer and composer, and clearly refers to both his inspirational encounter with New Orleans and traditional Norwegian tones from Finnskogen. Most of all, Bekken shows enormous competence on his instrument, which makes the performance completely free, and the boundaries between what is improvisation and actual melody are invisible<\/p>\n
This is clearly some of the core of the pelvis; Superior technical skills that allow complete freedom, as well as a heart that knocks all the music with a "blue mood" in it. Bekken is a self-written artist at the Blue Mood label.<\/p>\n
Bekken has through his three solo recordings at Blue Mood \/ Grappa (Hardcore Piano \/ Grand Piano \/ Upright Piano) and the classics; \u201dSongs from a Forest\u201d and \u201dSlaveriet\u201d with Richard Gjems clearly demonstrated that genre limits are for pedants and that a free, competent approach to instruments as well as melodies makes the experience of his piano and repertoire universal and groundbreaking.<\/p>\n
