Camilla Wicks has been known among musicians and concert audiences for nearly three generations as a violinist of integrity and passionate artistry. Her playing has touched the hearts of listeners throughout the world. Born in 1928 and educated at Julliard as a student of Louis Persinger she made her debut in New York\u00b4s Town Hall at the age of thirteen. Shortly thereafter she was performing as soloist with major American orchestras such as the Los Angeles Philharmonic, The Chicago Symphony and the New York Philharmonic, and later touring the world, recording for a range of record labels and working closely with, and premiering the works of, several renowned composers both in Norway and abroad. <\/p>\n
In preparing the \u201cViolin Concerto No. 4\u201d by Bjarne Brustad, which is featured on this album, she relied on her friendship with the composer and their many discussions about a range of different topics. Being one of the leading Norwegian composers of the twentieth century, Brustad\u00b4s music shows the influence of French music while at the same time introducing \u201cnational\u201d elements into his music, creating his own personal style. Wicks also performs William Walton\u00b4s \u201cConcerto for Violin and Orchestra\u201d on this album, a work greatly inspired by the music of the Mediterranean countries with a luscious, rhapsodic violin that conjures up passionate images of southern Europe.<\/p>\n
