Honoring the late Per Bolstad<\/p>\n
Per Bolstad became one of the most well-known fiddlers and composers of old time dance melodies in Norway. Like his father, a self-taught and very competent traditional fiddler, Per Bolstad learned to read and write music and played both in the older way as a solo fiddler and in a more modern way with a small ensemble. Per Bolstad\u00b4s ensemble frequently played for the Norwegian Broadcasting from the 1930s onwards, playing only Bolstad\u00b4s own compositions, many of which rise to popularity \u2013 not surprising considering his abilities as a songwriter, excelling in writing short, often humorous verses.<\/p>\n
On this CD the new Bolstad ensemble, with three fiddles, two accordions, guitar and bass, plays a selection of Bolstad\u00b4s well-known melodies and includes some that have not been previously recorded. Included on this release is also Per Bolstad himself, at 77 years of age, playing three springar tunes and a self-composed waltz. Bolstad passed away in 1967 after a successful career, being awarded the King\u00b4s Medal of Merit in Gold for his work. This album is the celebration of his 125th birthday and a securing of his important musical heritage.<\/p>\n
