Edvard Grieg’s opus 72

In August 1902 Grieg took embark on an adaptation of Norwegian tunes. Six months later, he finished, and in 1903 he provides the tunes, opus 72 as of many is considered to be the largest national musical folk epics. Piano literature had been an original and wholly Norwegian contribution of international stature. This disc contains the Opus 72 and all 17 tunes in the original version of Knut J. Dale. Before each track of opus 72, a original tune on the fiddle is played. In this way, this disc is a great opportunity to compare and listen to folk music in its original form, and folk music as it has been in art music.

Knut Buen is professional folk artist and has been Norwegian champion on fiddle twice. In 1979 he resived Myllarguten gold medal, and in 1986 he was awarded Telemark County Culture. Einar Steen-Nøkleberg is considered one of the leading pianists with a number of international opptredeber and recordings to his credit. Also Steen-Nøkleberg has received several awards such as Norwegian Grammy Award (1976), Lindeman Prize (1984) and Grieg Prize (1988).
