Nine outstanding young violinists in new pieces!

A new generation of Norwegian top violinists is on the way. The artistic and technical level found here is simply exceptional. For this release we have gathered 9 of them, all born between 1990 and -96, in recordings of newly written solo pieces by profiled Norwegian composers.

The idea to commission new Norwegian pieces to young Norwegian violinists came in 1990, inspired by the lack of new pieces at the various violin competitions around the world. The collaboration with the Norwegian Society of Composers ensured that the project was a big success, and when the Menhuin competition was held in Oslo in 2010, several of the new pieces were mandatory for all competitors.

A solo piece of your own

Many of the pieces on this release are written especially for the violinist who perform them, and all of the works have been premiered either at the Bergen International Festival or the Valdres Summer Symphony. Some of the pieces have followed the artist for a very long time; Guro Kleven Hagen was given her piece when she was only 13 years old!

From all over the country to Valdres Summer Symphony in June

The musicians on this recording are all results of the strong local musical work found many places around the country, from Alta in the north to Oslo in the south. Every summer since 1993 young musicians have had the opportunity to come together in Nord-Aurdal for one week of symphonic work. Alf Richard Kraggerud, the first leader of the Razumovsky Academy in London, is founder and artistic director of the festival.

Barratt Due Institute of Music

All the musicians you hear on this recording have been part of the tremendous work that is being done at the Barratt Due Institute of Music in Oslo, headed by Stephan Barratt-Due. In close collaboration with the institute the composers and soloists have worked in-depth over a long period of time with these works.
