This is organic music.

Tøyen Fil og Klafferi is a Norwegian contemporary music ensemble that has its own take on making music. The visual and intimate musical expression on their debut album opens the gates to the Botanical Garden (Botanisk hage) in the middle of a bustling city. This is organic music – for real.

Join Tøyen Fil og Klafferi for a fly tying course, stargazing, radio bingo and Chinese whispers. Hear the Icelandic geysirs and the fizz of the vitamin tablet dissolving, sounds of summer and insects, sounds of aerial roots and national anthems of countries that are no more.
The six works on the album by the composers Hafdís Bjarnadóttir, Carola Bauckholt, Kristine Tjøgersen, Klaus Ellerhusen Holm, Ylva Lund Bergner and Lars Skoglund all have their unique sound worlds for you to experience. With the record comes a map of the Botanical Garden, placing each piece specifically within, together with liner notes by biologist and author Hanna Bjørgaas. This makes an almost programmatic experience of the record as you move along inside the garden.

Tøyen Fil og Klafferi (Hanne Rekdal – flutes and bassoon, Kristine Tjøgersen – clarinets, Eira Bjørnstad Foss – violin and Tove Margrethe Erikstad – cello) is the name of an imagined sound factory founded in 2010 at Tøyen in Oslo, where the instruments stroke, trill, bow and blow life into new works of music. The quartet invites composers of diverse backgrounds and musical orientations to write for the ensemble. During the past ten years, TFK has given premiere performances of numerous compositions and collaborated with many Norwegian and international composers like Hafdís Bjarnadottir, Jon Øivind Ness, Julian Skar, Gudmundur Steinn Gunnarsson, Lars Skoglund, Carola Bauckholt, Ylva Lund Bergner, Lars Myrvoll, Kristine Tjøgersen, Bergrun Snæbjørnsdottir, Christian Blom, Jessica Sligter, Klaus Holm, Roberta Lazo Valenzuela and Jorge Gómez Elizondo. TFK has toured throughout the Nordic countries and enjoyed fruitful collaborations with institutions for contemporary music in Europe, like Ultima festival, Only Connect festival, PhonoFemme in Vienna, Bruckner University in Linz, EMS in Stockholm, Atalante in Göteborg, Sláturtíð festival, Reykjavik Art Museum and MENGI in Reykjavik.
